If you thought the Tesla Model S P100D was fast, the even quicker variant of Tesla’s flagship sedan, the Model S Performance, takes things up a notch. CarWow recently pitted it against a Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster to see what it can do.

Like the Model S P100D which it replaced, the Tesla Model S Performance continues to be powered by two electric motors and a 100 kWh battery pack. However, it now produces the equivalent of 825 hp and 958 lb-ft (1,300 Nm) of torque and is capable of acceleration once unthinkable for a road-going production car.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that the Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster is no slouch. Powered by a 6.5-liter naturally-aspirated V12 engine, the car is good for 730 hp at 8,400 rpm and 509 lb-ft (690 Nm) of torque at 5,500 rpm. Like the pre-facelift Aventador, this engine is coupled to a seven-speed ISR transmission sending power to all four wheels and allowing the Italian supercar to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in under 3 seconds.

For its tests, CarWow first set out to see which is quickest down the quarter-mile. In the first race, the Tesla won as the Lamborghini got a poor start off the line. In the second race, it was a dead heat with both cars finishing the quarter-mile in 10.6 seconds. In the third and final race, the Tesla came out on top and set a storming time of 10.4 seconds compared to the 10.6 seconds of the Lamborghini.
