It’s True: Hyundai’s Prophecy And 45 EV Concepts Bound For Production

The sleek Hyundai Prophecy is heading to production as the next-generation Ioniq, a company official has revealed. In addition, the retro-inspired 45 EV Concept will be produced as well.

During a recent interview with British publication Auto Express, Hyundai senior vice president and head of Hyundai Global Design Center, SangYup Lee, confirmed the news.

“There will be a production version of Prophecy coming after a production version of the 45 concept,” he said. “The 45 is more inspired by the 1970s, but a more modern SUV style that’s more mainstream. The Prophecy is inspired by the 1930s streamlined era. These two cars show how much of the design spectrum we are capable of.”

The Hyundai 45 EV will be a sporty electric crossover

Both the Prophecy and 45 will used the carmaker’s Electric-Global Modular platform (E-GMP), allowing Hyundai to stretch out the cabins of both vehicles.

“The EV skateboard platform with the short overhang and cowl pulled forward enables us to stretch the cabin to provide more space inside. The Prophecy is a future sedan – but not a traditional type of sedan, it will have lots of space inside and more curvature so it means a lot.”

As part of Hyundai’s plans to put the duo into production, it will also introduce a new design philosophy that will see its vehicles adopt very different designs, as opposed to following the ‘Russian Doll’ strategy that has become common across the industry.

“Our cars will be more like a chess board where you have a King, Queen, Bishop, Knight,” Lee said. “They all look different and function differently but when they’re together they come as one team. This is what the Hyundai look is all about – diversifying our design to fulfill our customer’s lifestyle. People say that you have to have to default with the grille looking the same and headlights looking the same, but we want to challenge that consistency in detail. So the cars will look completely different.”

Hyundai intends on using detailed LED lighting technology to bring its family of models together.

Technical specifications for the road-going Prophecy and 45 remain unclear. The 45 should premiere before the end of this year while the Prophecy will land in 2021.
