Update – After publishing this story, we learned that the EV was dropped due to the coronavirus with Lincoln informing dealers about their decision earlier today. More details here

Back in January, Ford revealed its partnership with Rivian would spawn a new electric vehicle for Lincoln.

The companies were tight-lipped on specifics, but confirmed the upcoming model would ride on Rivian’s skateboard platform and feature “advanced and intuitive technologies” as well as “Quiet Flight DNA.”

That isn’t much to go on, but Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe has previously said the model will be an “impressive product” that is “very different product from our own SUV, but it’s still in the SUV space.”

While the companies haven’t said much about the model lately, Car & Driver reports the SUV will arrive in 2022 and could be called the Lincoln Mark E. That would be a significant shift for the brand as they’ve moving away from “MK” monikers to traditional names such as Aviator, Continental, Corsair, Nautilus and Navigator.

Regardless of what the model is called, it will feature unique styling inside and out. However, since it’s based on Rivian’s platform, we can expect specifications to mirror those offered on the R1T and R1S.

As a result, the model should have four electric motors with outputs ranging from 402 hp (300 kW / 407 PS) and 412 lb-ft (560 Nm) of torque to 754 hp (562 kW / 764 PS) and 825 lb-ft (1,120 Nm) of torque. We can also expect battery packs with capacities of 105 kWh, 135 kWh and 180 kWh. These enable the R1S to have ranges between 240+ miles (386+ km) and 410+ miles (659+ km).

The publication also speculates that there could be an entry-level variant that uses two electric motors instead of four. That remains unconfirmed, but they suggest dropping two motors could result in even longer ranges.

While a lot of questions remain, the publication believes pricing could start around $70,000. That sounds about right as the R1S has a base price of $72,500.
