A 1987 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am that’s been built as a replica of KITT from Knight Rider is looking for a new owner through Bring A Trailer.
According to the listing, the comprehensive conversion was done in 2015 and saw the Firebird outfitted with a bespoke front bumper, hood treatments, fender vents, and a distinctive rear bumper cover. There is also a tinted taillight assembly to add to the vehicle’s menacing all-black appearance.

The KITT conversion is particularly apparent in the cabin where there is a custom dash crafted from fiberglass. Featured are a pair of working CRT-style screens as well as dual electronic instrument panels flanking the steering column. There is also a steering yoke just like the car from Knight Rider. Many of the lights in the dash are functional including those showing the speedometer, odometer, and tachometer. Admittedly, some of the lights are fake and just there for show. Also found within the interior is beige cloth upholstery with matching carpets.
Powering the car is a 5.0-liter LB9 V8 engine complete with tuned-port fuel injection and good for 200 hp when new. This engine is coupled to an automatic transmission that has been swapped in place of the previous manual gearbox the car used. The selling dealer says the car features a new fuel pump, ignition components, exhaust system, and hood struts.
Mileage sits at 87,000 miles (140,000 km) which isn’t that much for a vehicle of this age. The highest bid was sitting at $5,500 with seven days left in the auction at the time of writing.
