Lucid recently postponed the unveiling of the Air, but the company is making up for it by releasing a new video which shows a prototype traveling 400 miles (644 km) on a single charge.
In the clip, technical fellow Emad Dlala and senior engineer Ruxiao A. travel from San Francisco to Los Angeles without stopping to recharge the car’s battery pack.
That’s an impressive achievement, but a 400+ mile (644+ km) range isn’t what it used to be. The Tesla Model S Long Range Plus has an EPA-estimated range of 391 miles (629 km) and GM has confirmed its new electric vehicle platform can be equipped with a massive 200 kWh battery which will allow for ranges of 400 miles (644 km) or more.

That being said, a range in excess of 400 mile (644 km) isn’t anything to sneeze at. Many electric vehicles have a range of less than 250 miles (402 km) including the Porsche Taycan Turbo which goes just 201 miles (323 km).
Little is about the Air at this point, but it is slated to go into production at the company’s plant in Casa Grande, Arizona later this year. Lucid has also said the vehicle will have a luxurious interior and be capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in less than 2.5 seconds.
While a lot remains unknown, the company is in the process of getting its retail and service network setup. They’re adopting a direct-to-consumer model similar to Tesla and announced plans to open nine “studios” this year. They will all be located in California, Florida and New York. Additional stores will open in Chicago, Washington D.C. and Europe in 2021.
