Maserati’s all-new MC20 sports car is set to premiere this coming September and will usher in a new age of performance for the Italian car manufacturer.
The mid-engined vehicle was first teased in prototype guise by Maserati last year and penciled in for a debut in May. As Car and Driver notes, however, that has been pushed back to September because of the Covid-19 crisis. While we’ll have to wait a little longer to see the car in the flesh, it should be worth the wait.

The key headline for the MC20 will be its engine, a twin-turbocharged V6 that could displace 3.6-liters and produce more than 600 hp. It is understood this engine will be coupled to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission but it remains unconfirmed if the sports car will be rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Nevertheless, we do know that a hybrid variant will arrive at a later date and be followed up by an all-electric derivative.
Underpinning the Maserati MC20 is expected to be a similar carbon-fiber tub with the Alfa Romeo 4C, but it’ll be longer and wider and employ a longer wheelbase. Images of camouflaged MC20 prototypes already indicate it will be a physically larger car than the 4C.
If the car’s scheduled September unveiling goes ahead, we would expect customer deliveries to commence in 2021. It is also understood that 2021 will see the arrival of a convertible version.
