Last month, Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus (SCG) took to social media to ask fans whether they should build a car capable of racing at the Nürburgring 24 Hours or the Baja 1000.

The question was accompanied by a rendering that combined the looks of the 004 and Baja Boot, and that digital image is now about to be turned into a real vehicle, albeit with a DIY twist.

Referred to as the ‘Paris to Dakar SCG 008 004/Mini Boot’, it was inspired by the Porsche 959 rally cars, as the company’s founder James Glickenhaus confirmed, and will be offered as a kit car.

The idea behind the project is simple: those interested in it will be able to purchase the parts and assemble them in their garages. The engine will not be included, but it was designed to pack a 2.2-liter EcoTec crate unit and a Sadev transaxle.

“This will be offered directly through our web store. It will NOT be a complete car. It will be a kit of parts that can be purchased in installments”, said Glickenhaus. “The idea is ‘fun car’ like the Dune Buggy Steve drove in ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’, an off-road racer or a ‘Home Build Kit Car’, with all components meeting DOT requirements for NYS homebuilt/custom kit cars.”

As standard, the SCG Mini boot should get two-wheel drive, but an all-wheel drive system could be on the options list. This vehicle will be eligible for racing in the Dakar, Baja 1000 and other rallies. Pricing and other details will be announced in due course.
