The Tesla Model S Performance is now quicker than ever with the electric automaker revising its official 0-60 mph (96 km/h) time down to 2.3 seconds. The EV was previously rated at 2.5 seconds.
The reason for the added pace comes thanks to the ‘Cheetah Stance’ mode that was introduced a couple of weeks ago through a software update.
This mode adjusts the adaptive suspension of the EV that sees the front suspension lowered and the damping optimized when drivers press the brake with their left foot and hold the accelerator with their right foot, enabling ‘Launch Mode.’ It’s not just some suspension trickery that’s responsible for launching the Model S off the line quicker than ever before.

Included with the ‘Cheetah Stance’ mode is a peak power increase, added power above speeds of 80 mph (129 km/h), and increased powertrain thermal endurance that means the car can perform more acceleration runs without experiencing any drops in straight-line performance.
As Roadshow notes, Tesla Model S Performance examples with the ‘Cheetah Stance’ mode won’t remain the flagship for too long. Last year, Elon Musk confirmed the electric car manufacturer had started testing a new ‘Plaid’ variant of the sedan that will feature three electric motors, two at the rear axle and one at the front. The car will also sport a larger battery pack than the current 100 kWh unit and also include some aerodynamic tweaks. The Tesla Model S ‘Plaid’ is expected to launch before the end of this year.
