It’s a sad day for fans of the new Genesis G80 as the first recorded accident involving one has just emerged out of South Korea.

Limited details about the incident are known but it is claimed the luxurious sedan was involved in a crash “minutes” after being delivered, either to a customer or most likely, a dealership. Images reveal it will need some serious repairs.

A good portion of the driver’s side front quarter panel is missing while the rest looks to have been crushed. In addition, one of the wing mirrors has been bent backwards and the door is severely dented and sports a huge scrape running down from near the window line to the side skirt. It’s hard to say what caused the damage but it’s almost as though something was dropped on the car, although that wouldn’t explain why the mirror is sitting the way it is.

Regardless of what exactly happened, it’s obvious that it’ll be out of action for quite some time.

The 2021 Genesis G80 was only presented to the world in late March, following on from the launch of the GV80. It represents a significant step-up from the outgoing G80 and features the brand’s ‘Athletic Elegance’ design language which includes the company’s trademark double-lined quad headlights and taillights.

A host of updates have also been made throughout the interior. They include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with glasses-free 3D technology and a 14.5-inch infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and providing support for over-the-air updates.
