A bespoke rally car that sounds like a Formula 1 car competed at the Leadfoot Festival in Zealand back in February and is sure to get your heart pumping.
On first impressions, you could be excused for thinking this was a Peugeot 207 created specifically for Rallycross competition. However, it’s not. Instead, this car is known as the ‘Mad Creation 2’ (MC2) and was built by New Zealander Alex Kelsey when he was just 22 years old.
We’ve written about the MC2 before when Matt Farah from The Smoking Tire had the opportunity to test the car. Since then, the vehicle has been modified and at the Leadfoot Festival, set the fifth-fastest time in the event’s Top 10 Shootout. Watching and listening to it making its way up the hillclimb is an absolute joy.

While you could be forgiven for thinking the race car actually uses a Formula 1 engine, it doesn’t but instead features a 3.5-liter V6 from a Formula Renault race car. This engine pumps out a total of 450 hp at 8,500 rpm and suits the character of the car perfectly. Coupled to the engine is a six-speed SADEV transmission driving all four wheels, allowing the MC2 to sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) in approximately 2.6 seconds and 124 mph (200 km/h) in just seven seconds.
The racing model has predominantly been used in various rally competitions across New Zealand and according to the uploader of this video, been extremely successful.
