The owner of a Ferrari LaFerrari in Germany looks to have made the most of near-empty roads in Germany and accelerated down the Autobahn, reaching a top speed of 372 km/h (231 mph) in the process.
This video was shared on Instagram a few days ago and filmed from onboard the Italian hybrid hypercar. While we’re not unfamiliar with videos showing performance cars hitting insane speeds on public roads, what’s rather shocking about this video is that it seems to have been filmed on the mobile phone of the driver, meaning they only had one hand on the steering wheel at the time. Either that or a passenger was reaching around to position a camera in line with the speedo.
Sketchy video aside, what it captures is also quite surprising.

When Ferrari introduced the LaFerrari, it said it had a top speed of 349 km/h (217 mph) but as we mentioned above, the speedometer of this example shows it hitting 231 mph (372 km/h). Did Ferrari understate the car’s performance from the factory?
It’s no secret that many car manufacturers understate the performance of their cars so it’s entirely possible Ferrari did this with the LaFerrari. However, it’s also worth pointing out that the 372 km/h was only clocked by the car’s speedometer and not a GPS-based device. There’s no doubt that the speedometer likely reads a little high at these speeds. Another possibility is that this LaFerrari sits on non-standard wheels and tires that could have messed with the calibration of the speedometer.
