After hitting the market in 2006, the Toyota FJ Cruiser was available in the U.S. through to 2014 before it was killed off. In certain other markets, such as Australia and other right-hand drive countries, it remained on sale until 2017. As it turns out, there are at least two markets where the FJ Cruiser is still available, the United Arab Emirates and South Africa.
Various news outlets including Australia’s Which Car discovered that there is a 2020 FJ Cruiser model available in the UAE where it is sold in left-hand drive. It is also sold in South Africa in right-hand drive.

While the FJ Cruiser dates back to 2006, the 2020 model remains virtually unchanged. In fact, the only updates that the SUV seems to have received in the UAE and South Africa is an upgraded audio system and an updated infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, a built-in air compressor is featured, perfect for anyone who needs to reinflate their tires after hooning over sand dunes.
Powering the 2020 Toyota FJ Cruiser is the company’s 4.0-liter V6 that produces 270 hp and 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) of torque funnelled through all four wheels. Customers in the UAE have the option of a five-speed automatic transmission with a transfer case or can buy a six-speed manual with a Torsen-style center differential. The off-roader is also offered with an optional second fuel tank for those planning long journeys.
Prices for the FJ Cruiser start at 147,000 AED ($40,021) in the United Arab Emirates and 678,100 Rand ($37,307) in South Africa.
