Seeing the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class testing at the Nurburgring makes us think of a new Transporter movie, where Jason Statham would get behind its wheel instead of an Audi S8 – not that there’s anything wrong with the latter, of course.

Listen carefully and you will hear some engine noise too, but that’s not enough to decipher the mystery as to what will power it. Nevertheless, it’s likely that it will retain the V12 option in the range-topping variant of the series, which will obviously be quicker than today’s Maybach S650. The model does the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 4.7 seconds and tops out at 155 mph (250 km/h), courtesy of the 621 HP (630 PS / 463 kW) and 738 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque produced by the 6.0-liter V12.
The stricter emission regulations could force Mercedes-Maybach’s hand at giving the wealthy an electrified variant of the new S-Class, but if it’s planned, we wouldn’t expect it at launch, which is presumably planned for late 2020 or early 2021.
On the outside, we’ll see a evolutionary take on the current car’s design while the luxurious and spacious cabin will be jammed with the company’s latest technology features, including a massive infotainment display dominating the center console.
