Porsche’s all-new 911 family is about to welcome another member: the 911 Targa.
Set to premiere next Monday, on May 18, it will be unveiled on the company’s 9:11 Magazine online TV channel, though this wasn’t Porsche’s first option for the grand unveiling.
Initially, they were planning on bringing it to the 2020 Beijing Auto Show, which was supposed to take place between April 21-30. However, the event got pushed back, so they turned their heads towards the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, yet that one got cancelled too amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Then they wanted to show it at the Porsche Museum, but they had to put a cork in the third option too, as the site was temporarily closed until recently. So, with the world becoming more digital these past few weeks, Porsche decided to pick the internet for the presentation of the sports car.
Expected to be one of the most attractive models of the 992 generation, the 2021 911 Targa will launch with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six mounted on the rear axle. The base spec should offer 380 HP (385 PS / 283 kW), while spending more Benjamins will unlock the 444 HP (450 PS / 331 kW) version. The nought to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint will take less than 4 seconds.
The GTS moniker will make a comeback for the new generation 911 Targa, with a sportier appearance and the same 3.0-liter six-pot under the hood. We don’t know yet how much power it will bring, but we could be looking at somewhere in the region of 460-480 HP.
From what we understand, Porsche will likely continue to offer the Targa with all-wheel drive only, though there’s a small chance we could see a rear-wheel drive version this time around.
