Skoda has released new details, photos and a video of its first-ever all-electric vehicle, the upcoming Enyaq iV.

Based on Volkswagen Group’s MEB electric car platform which is also used by the VW ID.3 and ID.4, the compact electric SUV will offer a choice of rear- or four-wheel drive, three battery sizes, five power variants and a fast-charging option.

The base model will be the Skoda Enyaq iV 50 with a gross battery capacity of 55 kWh, a rear axle-mounted 109 kW (148 PS / 146 HP) and a range of up to 340 kilometers (211 miles). Next up will be the Skoda Enyaq iV 60 with a 62 kWh battery, a 132 kW (180 PS / 178 HP) electric motor and a range of 390 km (242 miles).

The Skoda Enyaq iV 80 will be powered by an 82 kWh battery feeding a 150 kW (204 PS / 201 HP) electric motor for a driving range of up to 500 km (310 miles). On top of these three RWD variants will sit two all-wheel-drive models, each featuring a second electric motor on the front axle in addition to the one at the back.

The first will be the Skoda Enyaq iV 80X, offering an 82 kWh battery, 195 kW (265 PS / 262 HP) of power and a 460-km (286-mile) driving range. The range-topping model will be the Enyaq iV RS with a total output of 225 kW (306 PS / 302 HP), which will enable it to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.2 seconds and hit 180 km/h (112 mph). The RS model features the same 82 kWh battery and also offers a driving range of 460 km (286 miles).

Skoda’s first-ever electric model will offer a charging capacity of up to 125 kW, making it possible to charge the battery from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in just 40 minutes.

Similar in size to the Skoda Kodiaq but with a lower height for a more dynamic character

The Czech brand claims the Enyaq iV will offer typical Skoda characteristics such as a generous amount of space, an emotive design, and “fun yet sustainable driving.”

The Enyaq iV is sized similarly to the Skoda Kodiaq, measuring 4,685-mm (184.4-in) in length, 1,877-mm (73.9-in) in width and sporting a wheelbase of 2,765 mm (108.8 in). It is markedly lower at 1,618 mm (63.7 in), a sign that it will have more dynamic qualities. As expected for a vehicle of this size, it offers a generous cargo volume of 585 liters (20.6 cu ft). The photos and video show a fully camouflaged test prototype shaped similarly to the VW ID.4 but featuring signature Skoda styling cues such as the grille and horizontal lights.

We don’t get to look inside but the automaker talks of a 13-inch free-standing center display, optional head up display with augmented reality and permanent internet connection. Skoda will build the Enyaq iV at its main plant in Mladá Boleslav in the Czech Republic, making it the first MEB-based Volkswagen Group vehicle in Europe to be produced outside Germany.

“The Enyaq iV marks the beginning of a new era for Skoda, it is the figurehead of our E-Mobility campaign. With it, we’re making E-Mobility Simply Clever thanks to long ranges and short charging times,” said Skoda Auto CEO, Bernhard Maier.

“At the same time, the Enyaq iV takes Skoda-typical virtues such as superior interior space, a trendsetting design and maximum functionality to a new level,” the executive added.

The Skoda Enyaq iV will enter production at the end of 2020, with the market launch scheduled to take place at the beginning of 2021.
