The Volkswagen Tiguan R and Arteon R were spied undergoing track testing at the Nurburgring where they completed several fast laps as the camera was rolling.
Putting the spotlight on the sporty variant of the Tiguan, the video shared below also shows the hot five-door liftback for a few brief seconds. This is a good opportunity to check them out in action, although for a closer look, you will have to click this link for the Arteon R, and this one for the Tiguan R.

Both models will boast new attire, which will include bigger bumpers, rear spoilers, large wheels, quad tailpipes, and R badges, in addition to a pair of sports seats at the front and a few other minor revisions, including more R branding, contrast stitching, and seat piping. Look for the ‘R’ letter on the steering wheels and gearshift levers of the two models, and perhaps in the infotainment system. Additional safety tech could round up the updates.
Earlier reports claimed that the Tiguan R and Arteon R will feature the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine from the new Golf R. It should pump out 333 PS (328 HP / 245 kW), directing the output to the two axles via a dual-clutch automatic transmission. Another less plausible scenario includes the use of the 3.0-liter VR6 twin-turbo unit making around 400 PS (394 HP / 294 kW) in the Arteon R, but we wouldn’t hold our breath for it.
The Arteon Shooting Brake is believed to adopt the R treatment as well, debuting early next year, while the Arteon R sedan is expected before the end of 2020, as is the Tiguan R.
