When Hyundai launched the Genesis premium brand four and a half years ago, not many actually believed that they would be able to make a statement against the big boys in the luxury segments.
But here we are today, with a model lineup that includes the G70, G80 and G90 sedans, as well as the GV80 SUV. The former is already turning three, and in order to keep it competitive, the Korean automaker is prepping its first mid-cycle refresh.

Our spy photographers already spotted the sports sedan in the open these past few weeks, and now we get to see it in action as it feeds on apexes of the Nurburgring.
As evident, the front end will be inspired by the G80 executive, with the brand’s now trademark split headlamp design. The restyling will also include split taillights, a more prominent six-point grille and new bumpers, while the rest of the car will look the same, because this is, after all, only a facelift, and not a new generation.
A new infotainment system with a larger display and available digital dials will reportedly be found inside, and these, alongside revised upholstery and trim options, will give the cabin a more modern feel.
Powering the top-spec G70 will be the same 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6, which pumps out 365 HP in the current model, but it’s unknown whether it will be modified in any way. The current base 2.0-liter four-pot, making 252 HP is likely to be replaced by the Korean group’s newer 2.5-liter turbo that develops 290 HP in the Sonata N Line. Like before, those living outside North America will be able to order the 199 HP 2.2-liter diesel.
The big unveiling of the Audi A4, Alfa Romeo Giulia, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3-Series and Jaguar XE rival is expected to take place before the end of the year.
