Alameda County said yesterday that they will allow Tesla to re-open the Fremont factory as early as next week if the company agrees to certain safety conditions.

The county’s latest announcement came after ordering Tesla to stop production in Fremont earlier the same day, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

County officials said that they received Tesla’s special Covid-19 Prevention and Control Plan and following “productive discussions” and “additional safety recommendations”, they now expect a revised plan from the carmaker.

“If Tesla’s Prevention and Control Plan includes these updates, and the public health indicators remain stable or improve, we have agreed that Tesla can begin to augment their Minimum Business Operations this week in preparation for possible reopening as soon as next week”, the Alameda County Public Health department said in its statement.

Officials didn’t mention if Tesla has agreed to halt operations until these requirements are in place. The news comes right after President Donald Trump voiced his support to Tesla and Elon Musk after the latter re-opened the factory in defiance of the local shutdown orders.

Tesla has resumed production over the weekend, with Fremont producing around 200 Model Y and Model 3 vehicles, with Elon Musk saying that “if anyone is arrested, I ask that it only be me”, indirectly admitting that he was the one that gave the order to re-open the factory.
