The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 is an absolute icon and this example recently restored by Legacy Overland is more special than most.
Legacy has heaps of experience restoring, modernizing, and modifying classic off-roaders like the FJ40 and says it spent thousands of man hours on this particular project.
The process of fully restoring a vehicle like this is no small feat and saw the entire car disassembled with even the tiniest parts restored, refurbished or replaced. A plethora of significant mechanical modifications were also made by Legacy Overland.
For example, the 4.2-liter Toyota 2F engine received new pistons, rings, sleeves, bearings (man, rod, cam), had the crank and cam polished, the valve seats ported, and various surfaces machined. The transfer case and four-speed manual transmission were also rebuilt with new synchros and bearings. Elsewhere, the Land Cruiser includes upgraded front and rear disc brakes and sits on the OEM 16-inch wheels with OEM chrome hub caps and BF Goodrich Mud/Terrain KM3 tires.

In terms of suspension, the FJ40 benefits from Old Man Emu 2-inch lift leaf springs, new shackles and bushings, and Old Man Emu gas shocks.
The cabin features unique distressed leather with black edge piping throughout. There is also a custom, upholstered cubby box and an extra roll bar has been fitted for extra strength. Audio is provided by a RetroSound vintage system with four speakers and Bluetooth.
We don’t know how much the owner of this Land Cruiser paid to have it restored and modified but can’t imagine it was cheap.
