Buying a new car can be an excruciating process for those who don’t know anything about… well, cars. However, since most people today like to stay connected through the world wide web, Chris Harris has appealed to them in a short video that speaks about the most interesting cars launched over the last 12 months in the UK, which cost under £30,000 (~$36,500).

Now, most journos would spend hours talking about each and every model on display, which counts vehicles from the most popular segments, including subcompact, compact and mid-size, and has a few crossovers as well, but not Monkey. In fact, all he needed to put together an interesting video was a mere four and a half minutes – and Harris does know his cars, so pay attention to it, as it does cover the basics.

Representing the small hatchbacks on that day were the Vauxhall (Opel) Corsa and Peugeot 208. Despite the different styling, they’re basically the same vehicle underneath, so why get the Vauxhall when you can get the much nicer looking Peugeot instead? Oh, and don’t bother about the Renault Clio, even if it’s better than its predecessor. Also, you could do better than the Skoda Scala, which is a bit boring, at least in Harris’ eyes.

WMoving on to the upper class, where we find another Skoda, the Kamiq, which has a few interesting features that nevertheless haven’t convinced the Top Gear co-presenter to spend his money on it. The Nissan Juke is better than before, but he still hates it. No one would ever buy an MG HS, and there is no need for a Volkswagen T-Cross as the Golf is much better.

In the compact class, Harris focused on the Toyota Corolla and Mazda3 and, unsurprisingly, he favored the latter instead of the former because it looks miles better and doesn’t have an annoying CVT. The Kia XCeed is nothing more than a jacked up hatchback with different looks and why get a Mazda CX-30 when you could just buy a Mazda3 anyway?

The new BMW 1-Series and Lexus UX are not to his liking when it comes to styling, and neither is the Toyota Camry, because it’s so dull, but the 3-Series Touring might be on to something, as it’s all the car everyone would ever need. So, which one would he choose if he was forced to? No, surprisingly enough, it’s not the 3-Series but something else – care to guess which one?
