An absolutely stunning 1977 Holden Torano A9X Hatchback is up for sale, and if you’re a fan of Australian muscle cars, things don’t get much better than this.
The Torano A9X was produced to allow the car to race at the Bathurst 1000, the most important race on the nation’s motoring calendar. Just 405 examples were ever built, with 305 of them being 4-door sedans and the remaining 100 being hatchbacks, just like this one. It is understood that between 50 and 60 of these hatchbacks survive to this day and that this is one of just four painted in Atlantis Blue.
Chassis no. 92/100 is being sold through Australian Muscle Car Sales with the original owner’s manual, log books, A9X build sheet, all dashboard paper hangers from the factory and letters of verification from Holden Historical Services and General Motors Holden. It has also been featured in a selection of magazines in the past.

Powering the muscle car is a 5.0-liter V8 producing 240 horses that is mated to a four-speed manual transmission and a 3.08:1 differential. The A9X was made distinct from other Torana models thanks to a rear-facing bonnet scoop designed to increase airflow into the engine bay, among other custom parts.
The car enjoyed a local of local racing success, taking out the 1978 and 1979 Australian Touring Car Championships and, in the process, winning the 1978 and 1979 editions of the Bathurst 1000.
This example has covered just 47,672 km (29,622 miles) from new, is completely standard and includes its original wheels. The asking price? A cool AU$495,000 (US $329,472)…
