Dashcam footage from a truck has captured the moment that a Subaru Impreza crashed into a Hyundai Sonata in Oakland, California before the driver of the Sonata fled the scene.
The video shows the white Impreza making a right turn and straddling two lanes while the silver Sonata pulls out from a parking space. Weirdly, neither the Subaru driver nor the Hyundai driver saw each other and the Impreza ends up hitting the front of the Sonata, ripping off its front bumper and grille.

It’s a little hard to tell what damage was done to the Subaru but it looks as though it too suffered some bumper damage with one of its air intake shrouds also falling to the pavement. The driver of the Hyundai clearly had the realization that they were to blame for the crash and quickly did a U-turn, fleeing the scene and making a swift right-hand turn down a side street.
While we would have expected the Subaru driver to see the Hyundai coming out and to brake, it is ultimately the responsibility of the Hyundai driver to pull out from the parking space in a safe manner. They clearly didn’t do that and were at fault for the crash.
However, while they may have fled the scene, that doesn’t necessarily mean they will get away scot-free. As the front bumper was ripped off the Sonata, it also lost its front license plates and were authorities called to the scene, they could have easily tracked down the driver.
