The unveiling of the Tesla Cybertruck late last year marked a shift in automotive design – assuming the production version will retain the daring looks when it eventually goes on sale in late 2021.

The Cybertruck’s controversial wedge styling has been a hit or miss with consumers even before the truck reached dealers. Still, that did not stop it from racking up 250,000 pre-orders in just five days after its unveiling. Like it or not, this probably means the Tesla Cybertruck could become a major influence on automotive design in the future.

So what would today’s iconic vehicles look like if the were influenced by the Tesla Cybertruck? LeasingOptions has done this exercise and has come up with five renderings of ‘Cybertrucked’ automotive icons. Here we go.

MINI Cooper

It’s hard to think of a more quintessentially British design than the classic Mini Cooper and its modern-day successor. Would any of that remain if the city car was designed by the same people who gave us the Tesla Cybertruck?

Well, it depends a lot on the eye of the beholder. The round surfaces and shapes would be replaced by straight ones, including the headlights and grille. Even the wheel arches are squared off and given this would be Tesla-designed, the grille is closed-off and features the Union Jack.

VW Beetle

You may be aware that Volkswagen has canceled the Beetle after an 80-year run so this would be a good time for its reinvention as an EV. If Tesla designers were given this task, they would probably come up with something like this.

Mind you, it’s rather hard to give the Beetle the Cybertruck treatment since we’re talking about a car that’s almost as round as an egg. Did anything survive of the beloved bug after being Cybertrucked? It’s up for you to decide.

Jaguar F-Type

The Jaguar F-Type is one of the most beautiful sports cars of the 21st century, especially in its original guise before the facelift. It continues to be a looker even after the late 2019 update. Now, would Tesla’s design treatment suit its sexy, sleek body? Umm, not so much.

The author has maintained the famous Jaguar grille, albeit in a squared iteration. The headlights have been squared-off as well, but the sharp angle formed by the A-pillars and the roof gives it a funny look. It would have probably looked much better if that angle was less pointy.

Bugatti Veyron

The Bugatti Veyron is a modern classic whose bodywork makes extensive use of curves and round surfaces. Reinventing it in the style of the Tesla Cybertruck is not an easy job, but the result looks better than expected.

While the hallmark side vents have been retained, the Cybertrucked Veyron is still a far cry from the usual style of Bugatti models.

Range Rover Evoque

The Range Rover Evoque SUV may suit the Cybertruck revamp the most out of this selection. The designer managed to retain the Range Rover styling while upgrading it cyberpunk-style.

Despite the significant changes, it remains easily recognizable as a Range Rover Evoque, which was the initial purpose of this exercise. Now that you’ve seen them all, which one is your favorite? Assuming you have one, that is.
