Imaginary AMC Gremlin Restomod Looks Infinitely Better With A Shorter Front Overhang

The AMC Gremlin remains one of the most intriguing production cars to come out of North America in recent decades, thanks primarily to its odd two-door shape.

Between 1970 and 1978, AMC built a touch over 670,000 examples of the Gremlin, each with what’s referred to in the industry as a “kammback” tail. While many love the unique looks, not everyone is so fond of the Gremlin’s design so artist Abimelec Design recently set about tweaking it to make it a little more appealing with these illustrations.

Beyond the odd shape of the Gremlin’s tail, its pronounced front overhang is also one of its more weird styling traits so for his dream example, Abimelec decided to push the front axle several inches forward to extend the wheelbase and reduce this overhang. While that alone may not seem like much of a change, it does have quite a dramatic impact on the overall look of the car, making it look more proportional and not so front-heavy.

It’s not just the wheelbase that has been changed. Now residing under the hood is a modern-day 6.4-liter naturally-aspirated Hemi V8 that we’re sure would turn the Gremlin into an absolute animal, thanks in no small part to the fact that the car only weighed a touch over 2,600 lbs (1,179 kg) when it left the factory.

Completing the design changes made to the car include new black and chrome hub caps and a bright turquoise metallic paint scheme.
