Karma has introduced their new Extended Range AWD E-Flex platform which can be used to underpin pickups and SUVs.

Billed as the fifth and final of their five demonstration projects, the architecture features front and rear electric motors that are powered by an 80 kWh battery pack that is mounted beneath the floor. The company says the latter is powerful enough to deliver an electric-only range of up to 240 miles (386 km).

However, the platform also features an undisclosed range-extending engine. The company claims it can increase the overall range up to 495 miles (797 km).

While Karma declined to reveal additional specifications, they said all E-Flex platforms use a number of components sourced from the Revero GT. These include electric motors in “various configurations.”

Unfortunately for fans hoping for yet another electrified pickup, Karma didn’t mention any plans for production. Instead, they once again suggested they wanted to sell the architecture as they noted the platform allows manufacturers to “optimize development costs to engineer, test, certify and build an EREV or BEV platform, allowing electrification of their products with greater speed and efficiency.”

According to Karma’s Chief Operations Officer, “Our AWD Extended Range platform has the longest range and widest configuration of all our E-Flex platforms, allowing for high levels of efficiency and configurability to suit a variety of market needs.” Kevin Pavlov added pickup trucks based on the platform could “allow the driver to negotiate steeper grades and get better performance throughout their driving pattern, which is beneficial for pulling trailers or carrying full payloads.”
