Lucid was set to unveil the Air at the New York Show last month, but the coronavirus threw a wrench in those plans as the show was pushed back to August.
While the company is planning to introduce the car later this year, they’ve taken to teasing the model until the pandemic subsides.
In the latest teaser video, the company shows off their fleet of more than 40 beta prototypes. These are near production models which were created for the company’s “comprehensive testing program.”

Unfortunately, even testing has been impacted by the coronavirus as Lucid’s Director of Press Communications, Andrew Hussey, said they are “idle for now” due to stay-at-home orders. However, he went on to say “These groundbreaking EVs are waiting patiently for the orders to lift, as is every member of the 1000-strong Lucid Motors team.”
While the prototypes are currently taking a break, they’ve already racked up miles during winter testing in Minnesota and trips between San Francisco and Los Angeles on a single charge.
While the company didn’t say much about the prototypes, they noted each features one of four distinctive wraps. Lucid will “soon share the inside story behind each of the camouflage designs” on social media.
Lucid is keeping full details under wraps, but they have already confirmed the Air will be able to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in less than 2.5 seconds and have a top speed in excess of 200 mph (322 km/h). Owners will also be able to travel more than 400 miles (644 km) on a single charge.
Other highlights include an air suspension, voice recognition technology and over-the-air updates that promise to deliver increasing levels of autonomy. Customers will also be able to order an optional executive seating package that features two individual rear seats which recline up to 55 degrees and are separated by the full-length center console.
