Mercedes is ramping up the teaser campaign for the facelifted E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet as they’ve revealed the first interior picture and detailed the updated driver assistance systems.
Starting in the cabin, the Coupe and Cabrio will have the latest version of the MBUX infotainment system.
It features a voice assistant that responds to the wake up word “Hey Mercedes.” The feature allows users to adjust the climate control system, turn on the heated seats and learn the score of last night’s game simply by speaking.
The infotainment system features a 12.3-inch display that matches the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The system also supports augmented reality navigation as well as the MBUX Interior Assistant. The latter recognizes interior movement such as “when a hand approaches the touchscreen or the touchpad on the center console.”

The E53 AMG will be more distinctive as it’s instrument cluster offers three display modes including a “Supersport” mode that features a central tachometer. The models will also have other performance related displays such as a G-meter and race timer.
Mercedes didn’t say much else about the interior, but the image reveals the cars will have a new steering wheel. Besides boasting an updated design, it has sensors mounted in the rim that can detect whether or not a driver’s hands are on the wheel.
On the safety front, the E-Class Coupe and Cabrio will be offered with an optional Driver Assistance package which includes Active Distance Assist Distronic with route-based speed adjustment. It’s an adaptive cruise control system that will automatically slow down as the vehicle approaches curves, junctions, roundabouts, toll booths and exit roads.
The package also includes Active Steering Assist which helps in stop-and-go traffic on the highway at speeds below 37 mph (60 km/h). There’s also an Active Blind Spot Assist system with exit warning. The latter provides an audible and visual warning if the ignition is recently turned off and a cyclist or vehicle is approaching from behind.
The package also features Active Parking Assistant with Parktronic and a 360° camera. The camera now provides “more realistic” images, while the active parking system has been upgraded to park automatically, on marked surfaces, without adjacent vehicles.
The facelifted E-Class Coupe and Cabrio will debut on May 27th and Mercedes has already confirmed we can expect new engines and more upscale styling.
