A new Nissan Z is in the works, as the Japanese automaker recently teased in a video showing several of its future models, and it just so happens we have stumbled across a series of illustration providing a take on how the sports car could look like.
These illustrations come from Russian designer Ilya Zakharov who currently works as an exterior designer at LADA, and were completed for his bachelor thesis project back in 2017. Rather than featuring a design akin to the 350Z or 370Z, the Nissan Z-Vision adopts a retro-inspired design more similar to the classic 240Z.

Found at the front end is an angular fascia as well as a tiny grille with a bright yellow surround. There are also a set of intriguing LED headlights that stretch up onto the hood, similar in shape to the DRLs of the new Hyundai Sonata. The design of the hood is also quite intriguing because it is asymmetrical. Also located on the front wheel arches are two small rear-facing cameras in place of traditional wing mirrors.
The side profile is just like the iconic 240Z with an angular roof, sharp side windows, and a rear window stretching right back to the rear fascia. Taillights similar in shape to those of the headlights are also visible.

From what we’ve seen, Nissan’s own designers want the new Z sports car to pay homage to the original 240Z. Power could be provided by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with approximately 400 hp, while the car itself will use a heavily updated version of the FR platform.
Nissan’s financial woes are well-reported and have been worsened by the coronavirus pandemic. Consequently, we don’t expect to see the new sports car until next year.
