Opel and consequently sister company Vauxhall have dropped another teaser of the new generation Mokka, this time revealing the logo on the tailgate, under the company’s badge.
Designed in a new font, it will be easily readable and won’t be accompanied by other badges that reveal equipment lines or displacement abbreviations, saying only ‘MOKKA’ or ‘MOKKAe’ in the case of the Mokka-e battery-electric model.

“The nameplate illustrates the absolute precision of the new Mokka. The sharply crafted lettering is stretched in a wide landscape format and is confidently spaced to emphasize the width of the vehicle”, said Opel Design President Mark Adams. “It’s central placement is consistent with Opel’s compass philosophy, where the key visual elements are arranged along the vertical and horizontal axis. The electric Mokka-e is defining a new era for the Opel brand. Form and function linking together perfectly – simply German.”
Speaking of German, Opel described the front end of the new-gen subcompact crossover as having “extremely attractive features that are disciplined and personable at the same time – like a German supermodel working on the set”. Take that as you will.
Co-developed with input from PSA, the 2021 Mokka will be based on the CMP (EMP1) architecture, shared with the new-gen Corsa, Peugeot 208, 2008 and DS3 Crossback. Compared to its predecessor, it will be up to 265 pounds (120 kg) lighter.
The small internal combustion units will form the engine family, while those who favor electricity instead of ICE will get to order the Mokka-e. Details surrounding the electric variant are unknown, but it could use the same powertrain as the 134 HP Corsa-e, which packs a 50 kWh battery and has a 205-mile (330-km) range. The DS3 Crossback E-Tense is also available with a 134 HP electric motor and 50 kWh battery, which makes this scenario even more plausible.
Opel and Vauxhall will kick off European deliveries of the new Mokka in early 2021, which means that we could see the first official photos in the coming months.
