A gorgeous 1993 Porsche 911 Carrera RS America is currently up for sale from Top Gear Imports in New Jersey on eBay but with a $228,888 asking price, it certainly isn’t for everyone – especially now.
Porsche’s goal in producing the 964 Carrera RS was to design a vehicle that appeased customers in the U.S. who had grown concerned with the 911’s added heft and wanted something lighter. Earlier in 1992, Porsche had released the Carrera RS for the European market but decided not to sell it stateside over concerns it was too aggressive. U.S. owners weren’t pleased and before long, Porsche met their demands and created the 964 RS America. It proved hugely successful and in recent years has become extraordinarily valuable.

Being a 1993 model year car, this example was one of just 297 units built for that year and has just 2,484 miles (3,997 km) on the clock.
Powering the lightweight sports car is a 3.6-liter naturally-aspirated flat-six engine producing 260 hp at 6,100 rpm and 230 lb-ft (312 Nm) of torque at 4,800 rpm. Mated to this engine was the same five-speed manual transmission as the lesser Carrera 2 variant but a series of weight-saving measures meant the RS was 77 lbs (35 kg) lighter.
This example has been well taken care of and the seller asserts that it is the cleanest RS in the country. It is painted in a beautiful shade of red and the exterior looks immaculate. It is a similar story in the cabin thanks to the original RS America floor mats, black cloth seats, and eight-speaker sound system.
