The new VW Touareg with its available V8 TDI engine looks to be quite promising, but unfortunately, we won’t see it in North America where the Atlas series is here to stay as the brand’s largest SUV offering.
Over in Europe, Autogefühl recently had the opportunity to test the latest Touareg with the pumped up V8 diesel. The reviewer didn’t test just any old Touareg variant with this new engine but One Million edition. This version, as the name suggests, celebrates the 1 millionth Touareg produced by the German automaker and features a host of visual updates that includes ‘One Million’ badging.
This example has also been equipped with the R-Line Black Style package that adds to the stealthy and aggressive looks of the SUV. Most notably, it includes a gloss black grille and has black tinting around the headlights.

As for the diesel mill, it is a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 churning out 415 hp and a hefty 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque from just 1,250 rpm. This engine is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and the marque’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system, resulting in a sprint from 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in a very respectable 4.9 seconds and a limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
VW recently boasted about how clean this engine is after it successfully completed Real Driving Emissions tests in three German metropolitan areas. Helping the diesel be so clean is a multi-stage exhaust gas treatment that operates alongside a large NOx storage unit and SCR catalytic converter.
A good portion of Autogefühl’s review focuses on the interior of the Touareg which looks like a very nice place to sit. We then get to hear what it is like to drive.
