If you want to drive around in a vehicle that evokes memories of the original Shelby Cobra but drives like a new car, the Superformance MKIII-R could be a good option.
Superformance’s MKIII-R is based on the same square-tube-frame chassis the company uses for other MKIII models it sells. This means there is independent suspension at all four corners with unequal-length upper and lower control arms as well as coil springs with Bilstein shocks. All MKIII-R models produced also come standard with a limited-slip differential as well as four-piston front brake discs and single-piston rear disc brakes but customers can option six-piston calipers at the front.

As Superformance sells the MKIII-R as a rolling chassis, customers have to purchase and install the engine and transmission themselves. The model pictured is rocking a Roush 427 cubic-inch V8 engine pumping out an impressive 510 hp and 515 lb-ft (698 Nm) of torque that’s coupled to a five-speed automatic transmission.
While customers don’t receive an engine or a transmission, they do receive a fully-assembled Cobra body and what a body it is. The sports car is bathed in flowing body panels with flared wheel arches and a rollover hoop placed behind the driver. As for the cabin, it comes complete with top-stitched leather seats, leather across the center console, analog dials and a lovely three-spoke steering wheel. Like the exterior finish, customers can spec out the cabin to their individual taste.
Pricing for the Superformance MKIII-R starts at $79,900 but that doesn’t include the engine and transmission nor features like push-button start, a stereo, air conditioning, or a soft top. For more details or to order the car, head over to the manufacture’s page.
