This year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed has been sadly postponed, but to keep us entertained, the following video showcasing the 10 fastest times up the famed British hillclimb has been released.

At last year’s event, the Volkswagen ID.R driven by Romain Dumas smashed the outright record when he sprinted up Lord March’s driveway in just 39.90 seconds.

In the process of snatching this new record, the ID.R beat the McLaren MP4/13 Formula 1 car driven by Nick Heidfeld that had held the record since 1999 with a time of 41.60 seconds. As F1 cars are no longer allowed to set timed runs up the hillclimb, it’s unlikely Heidfeld’s run will be topped by another open-wheel racing car for a very long time.

The third fastest time of 42.90 seconds was set by British Hillclimb Champion Graeme Wight Jr back in 2003 behind the wheel of a special Gould GR51 hillclimb racer. The fourth best time is held by the VW ID.R that completed the hillclimb in just 43.05 seconds in 2018 while running in the same aerodynamic setup it had for Pikes Peak, as opposed to the revised aero setup it returned with in 2019.

One place behind the ID.R Pikes Peak is an epic Jaguar XJR8/9 that completed the run in 44.19 seconds with Justin Law back in 2009. Interestingly, the same car holds the seventh fastest lap up the course as, on a separate run, it set a time of 44.40 seconds. Splitting the two best times of the XJR8/9 is the all-electric NIO EP9 with a time of 44.32 seconds.

Finally, the eighth, ninth, and tenth quickest cars up the course are a Williams-Cosworth FW078B, Sebastien Loeb’s Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak, and a Leyton House-Judd CG901B.
