While you’re far more likely to see a Mercedes-AMG G63 cruising around Beverly Hills than you are to see one anywhere near an off-road trail, the German brand’s mighty G-Wagon is very capable in difficult terrain. Need proof? Just watch the video below.
This video from Youtube channel Strelaification, filmed somewhere in Europe (perhaps Russia), shows two G63 owners putting their vehicles to the test in climbing a snow-covered dirt hill.
In one clip, a white G63 races a black G63 up the hill. The owner of the white example, who is clearly very determined to win and has little concern with damaging the SUV, floors it up the hill, getting a decent amount of air time as the front and rear bounce up and down. The owner of the black G63 takes things much more cautiously but still gets up the hill with relatively little fuss.

Next, it’s time for a good old tug of war. In the first, the G63 is pitted against a Lexus LX570. The duo are very well matched and it ends of up being a complete stalemate. A VW Touareg then tries to knock off the G63 but simply doesn’t have the grunt to compete.
One of the key reasons why the G63 is so capable in slippery conditions is that it has not one, not two, but three locking differentials. We have no idea if those locking diffs were engaged when these G63s were racing up the snowy hill but they are enough to get you out of almost any situation. It’s a crying shame most G-Wagons will never be taken off-road.
