Porsche is one of those carmakers that has given us a lot of iconic performance cars over the years and one of those cars is the 964 Carrera RS.
The 964 Carrera RS was never offered new in the US due to its lack of airbags and other boring federalization reasons, with Porsche instead releasing the RS America version for hardcore North American customers.
Compared to the already stripped-down RS America, the 964 Carrera RS was even lighter and even more focused; in fact, it’s 286 lbs (130 kg) lighter than the standard Carrera 2 thanks to things like a seam-welded chassis, a bonnet made out of aluminum, thinner glass for the side and rear windows, and a set of magnesium Cup wheels. The result is a weight figure of 2,705 lbs (1,227 kg).

Porsche also removed the power steering, the rear seats, sound insulation material and replaced the electronically adjustable seats with fixed-back bucket seats. The door cards were also replaced with flat items that feature the now-famous strap instead of a normal handle.
Porsche went as far as removing the rust-protection undercoat and the extra wiring from the model’s harness for the components that were no longer present. That’s quite the attention to detail.
The engine is an upgraded version of the standard Carrera 2 and Carrera 4 unit with balanced internals and a lightweight flywheel. It’s paired to a G50 five-speed manual transmission with shorter gear ratios and a limited-slip differential. The result is 260 HP from 3.6 liters, 10 HP more than the standard model. 0-60 mph came in 5.1 seconds, half a second quicker than the standard Carrera 2 model, while top speed remained the same, at 163 mph (263 km/h).
The suspension is 40 mm lower, featuring race-tuned dampers and springs, while the front brakes are the same with the 911 Turbo and the rear ones come straight from the Carrera Cup race car.
The car you see pictured here is currently offered over at Bring A Trailer and is already attracting some serious bids as expected. This Porsche 964 Carrera RS was sold new to Italy and imported to Canada from France in 2015. It’s now offered with a clean Washington State title and a clean CarFax report, showing around 60,000 km (37k miles) on the odometer.
