Chevrolet continues the roll out of mild-hybrid systems on its Chinese lineup with the Orlando crossover / MPV.
The five- or seven-seat model gets the same mild-hybrid powertrain as the Monza that debuted last month. More specifically, the system combines the existing 1.3-liter Ecotec turbocharged three-cylinder engine with a six-speed DSS start/stop transmission, a 48V electric motor, 48V power battery, power management module and hybrid control unit.
GM did not reveal the output but it’s safe to assume it delivers the same power as on the Monza – 161 HP (163 PS). According to GM China, the mild-hybrid system has five working modes: Auto Start, E-boost, Smart Charge, Brake Energy Regeneration and E-idle.

Thanks to electrification, the Orlando is said to provide “a more powerful, smoother and quieter driving experience when starting, accelerating, cruising and braking.” The fuel efficiency stands to gain as well, reaching 6.1 l/100 km (38.5 mpg US / 46.3 mpg UK). That’s a 9 percent improvement over the Orlando equipped with the standard powertrain.
The Chevy Orlando also comes with the new MyLink+ in-vehicle infotainment system, which integrates mobile phone connectivity with OnStar to support an array of entertainment features and functions. Users get 100 GB of free OnStar 4G LTE data service every year.
In total, Chinese customers have five new Orlando mild-hybrid variants to choose from, including five- and seven-seat models as well as sporty Redline variants. Prices range between RMB136,900 ($19,350) and RMB159,900 ($22,600).
