Just days after the facelifted BMW 4-Series was revealed, an image of the new BMW M4 has leaked online, on a number of sites and forums.
It remains unclear where this photo was snapped (though, we suspect it’s at one of BMW M’s centers) but the image shared on Reddit by user ‘solkee’ it shows the new M4 painted in a shade of gunmetal grey. The most striking aspect of the car’s front fascia are, of course, the enlarged kidney grilles. Whereas the similarly-large grille of lesser 4-Series variants has a complex, 3D mesh design, the M4’s grille has simplified horizontal slats.
As you can see in a second leaked photo of the performance model’s bumper that comes from Bimmer Post, the individual kidney grilles of the M4 are also slightly slimmer than those of more affordable 4-Series versions.

Cast your eyes beyond the grille and you will see the new BMW M4 has the same angular headlights as other 4-Series models while on either side of the grille are additional black air intakes. The outer edges of the front bumper are relatively bare although there is a vertical design element that could be a brake cooling duct or simply a piece of closed-off plastic.
Another interesting aspect of the sports car’s design is the hood as it appears to have two subtle indents that start just above the BMW grille and stretch towards the windshield.
Design aside, we know the new BMW M4 will feature the same S58 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged straight-six engine as the X3 M and X4 M. This powertrain will deliver 473 hp in standard form and 503 hp in Competition spec. New to the M4 will be an all-wheel drive system but like the M5 and M8, drivers will have the option of a rear-wheel drive only mode. An eight-speed automatic transmission will be standard although some variants will be sold with a manual ‘box.
