While the F80-generation BMW M3 is a formidable sports sedan and there’s a new one on its way, it is the E92 M3 that could prove to be a very valuable collector’s car in the future.
This particular 2013 BMW M3 is one of the rare Lime Rock Park Edition models and is equipped with the available six-speed manual transmission. Not only does it have striking looks, but we suspect it has all the right ingredients to also make it a very good investment.

The most obvious reason why the E92 M3, particularly those with the six-speed manual, is bound to increase in value comes down to the 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated V8 which just so happened to be the final naturally-aspirated V8 built by the German automaker. The 4.0-liter unit delivers 414 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) and revs to an impressive 8,200 rpm. As this is a Lime Rock Park Edition variant, it is fitted with an Inconel-Titanium exhaust, sports a Fire Orange paint and comes equipped with the Competition package.
A look at the previous ownership history reveals the car was in BMW’s corporate fleet for just over two years when new and registered in New Jersey before being acquired by the seller at an auction. This has led a commentator on the Bring A Trailer auction to suggest this was once a press car. While we can’t verify that, a quick search reveals there were at least two M3 Lime Rock Park Edition press cars registered in New Jersey by BMW.
The car covered a touch over 9,000 miles (14,481 km) when used in BMW’s fleet and the seller has added roughly 32,000 miles (51,500 km) since buying it in 2015.
