While the current Chevrolet Corvette Stingray will be out-performed by future variants of the C8, this clip shows that it is still a beast when put through its paces on a circuit.
The Torch Red Corvette seen here is owned by YouTuber Speed Phenom and was recently taken to Laguna Seca and pushed to its limits at the challenging circuit. It seemed to perform very well and the helmet-mounted camera setup provides us with an excellent idea of what it’s like to drive the new Corvette Stingray on a track.
The on-track action starts at the 3:15 mark but things get particularly exciting in the first video at around the 6:40 mark when the ‘Vette comes up behind a bright blue Dodge Viper ACR and proceeds to chase down the track-focused beast over a series of laps. Meanwhile, a Porsche 911 GT3 was right on the tail of the Chevy.

There’s no doubt that the Dodge Viper ACR is much faster around a circuit than the C8 Corvette but being brave enough to rocket the ACR through corners with enough speed to make the most of the downforce takes a very skilled driver. By comparison, the Corvette seems comparatively easy to drive at its limit.
Watching this clip you’ll also undoubtedly notice just how enthralling the 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 engine of the Corvette sounds. With more and more sports cars and supercars adopting forced induction, it’s lovely to hear a brutish naturally-aspirated V8 like this one pushed right to its redline.
