The delayed 2020 Formula 1 season will kick off in early July and to show that it is ready to hit the racetrack, Ferrari called upon driver Charles Leclerc to jump behind the wheel of the Ferrari SF1000 in the automaker’s home town of Maranello.

Ferrari presented the SF1000 at a special event in Reggio Emilia, Italy back in mid-February prior to pre-season testing and the Australian Grand Prix.

This season will see Ferrari compete in its 1,000th Formula 1 World Championship event, hence the SF1000 name. The race car is an evolution of last year’s SF90.

In the months since the Formula 1 season was put on hold, quite a lot has happened at Ferrari.

Most notably, it was confirmed in May that Sebastian Vettel will leave the squad at the end of this season. The four-time world champion joined Ferrari in 2015 but has yet to achieve the same level of success he enjoyed while at Red Bull Racing. He was also comprehensively out-performed by Charles Leclerc during the 2019 season.

Joining Leclerc at Ferrari from the 2021 season onwards will be Carlos Sainz Jr who currently races with McLaren. The Spaniard and son of rally legend Carlos Sainz performed extraordinarily well last year and finished sixth in the world championship, easily outscoring his teammate Lando Norris who finished 11th in the title race.

Late last year, Leclerc signed a new contract with Ferrari, securing him with the team until the end of the 2024 season.
