Ferrari’s homage to the iconic 1976 short-film C’était un rendez-vous has been released starring Charles Leclerc and the Ferrari SF90 Stradale.

The short-film, dubbed Le Grand Rendez-Vous, was filmed on May 24, the day that the Monaco Grand Prix would have been held had the coronavirus pandemic not canceled the most famous event on the F1 calendar. We’re no film critics but we think you’ll agree that this new short film isn’t quite as thrilling as the original.

Le Grand Rendez-Vous was filmed with the help of Claude Lelouch, the man behind C’était un rendez-vous. Footage was captured on no less than six iPhone 11 Pros, nine GoPros and one Sony Venice Camera.

The driving footage of Leclerc behind the wheel of the latest and greatest Ferrari road car is pretty epic, particularly the clips filmed from the nose of the car as it makes its way around the classic street circuit. Roughly two-thirds of the way through the video, Leclerc picks up HSH Prince Albert II for a high-paced lap of Monte Carlo.

Given that the video was filmed in the midst of the coronavirus, everyone is wearing face masks and there are also a number of ‘elbow-bumps’ between the ‘actors.’ As for the actual plot of the short film, well, as a number of people have said in the YouTube comments, it doesn’t make much sense. We’ll let you be the judge of whether or not this is as good as the original Rendezvous.
