Ford and Volkswagen have signed a number of agreements which will see the two companies work together and develop vehicles for one another.
The latest agreements pave the way for a new medium pickup which will be built and engineered by Ford. Volkswagen will get its own version of the truck in 2022 and it will use the familiar Amarok moniker.
On the van side of things, Ford will receive a new model based on the Volkswagen Caddy. The vehicle could arrive as early as next year and it will be followed by a 1-ton cargo van created by Ford and sold by both companies.

Ford will also make a “highly differentiated” electric vehicle based on Volkswagen’s MEB platform. The model will be launched in 2023 and offered in Europe.
Ford has high hopes for the vehicle as they noted it will combine “space and performance” with zero emissions mobility. The vehicle will be designed and engineered by Ford, and the company believes they could eventually deliver 600,000 EVs based on the MEB platform.
Besides the aforementioned products, Ford and Volkswagen will work with Argo AI to create “distinct, highly capable autonomous-vehicle businesses.”
In a statement, Volkswagen Group CEO Herbert Diess said “In light of the Covid-19 pandemic and its impacts on the global economy, more than ever it is vital to set up resilient alliances between strong companies.” He added, “This collaboration will efficiently drive down development costs, allowing broader global distribution of electric and commercial vehicles, and enhance the positions of both companies.”
In other news, Ford COO Jim Farley revealed the electric F-150 will be launched within the next two years. He didn’t elaborate, but we’ll probably learn more about the truck when the redesigned model debuts on June 25th.
