This 1991 Chevrolet Caprice may be listed for sale as a ‘Caprice Rare Concept Car’, but it certainly isn’t a car that Chevrolet cooked up itself. Far from it and yet, despite that, it is still quite interesting.

While specifics about the vehicle are hard to come by, obviously the owner was inspired by the iconic Chevrolet El Camino and wanted a vehicle that drives like a sedan while offering the practicality of a pickup truck. The finished product is bizarre, to say the least.

Images from the Craigslist ad suggest that it is still very much a work in progress. The front half is relatively normal Chevrolet Caprice but from the doors back, the sedan’s body makes way for a spacious pickup bed.

The most curious aspect of the car is that unlike the original El Camino that was a two-seater, the builder of this car has retained the Caprice’s rear seats. In order to do so, a section of the roof has been cut out so there is no roof or rear window and rear-seat passengers are open to the elements.

One could consider this as a bit of an oversight or the design could be compared with that of the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet that has rear seats which, when the fabric top is folded away, are also exposed to the outside world. Let’s pretend the builder was going after a Landaulet vibe with their custom ‘El Caprice-o,’ as GM Authority aptly puts it – although we can’t imagine an elegant, or easy, way to put a cover above the rear passengers’ heads.

The car has an asking price of $7,995 although quite a lot of work will need to be done to finish it.
