Haval has officially presented its latest SUV in China and it has a rather intriguing name to match the striking looks.

The vehicle will be sold as the Haval DaGou in China which directly translates to ‘Haval Big Dog’. It is understood this name was chosen following a public poll to name the vehicle and it is rather fitting given how different the SUV looks from other Haval models.

The Big Dog adopts a very boxy and squared shape in a not too dissimilar fashion to the forthcoming Ford Bronco Sport. There are round headlights, a bulky front bumper with a skid plate and tow hooks, black wheel arches, roof rails, black and silver wheels, and all-terrain tires. The rear features sideways L-shaped taillights as well as a prominent Haval badge.

Haval’s Big Dog measures 4,620 mm long (182-inches), 1,890 mm wide (74.4-inches), and 1,780 mm wide (70-inches) and has a wheelbase of 2,738 mm (107.7-inches). Importantly, it offers up respectable ground clearance of 200 mm.

Inside, things are just as eye-catching as they are from the outside. For starters, the cabin of the Haval Big Dog is very rugged with beefy grab handles on the doors and one on the dashboard for the front-seat passenger. Haval has fitted a chunky steering wheel and an all-digital gauge cluster. Also visible is a large central infotainment screen, a wireless phone charging pad, horizontal air vents, and a circular gear selector.

It is understood two engines will be offered. The first will big a 1.5-liter producing 125 kW (168 hp) and 285 Nm (210 lb-ft) while a 2.0-liter with 165 kW (221 hp) and 385 Nm (284 lb-ft) will top out the range.
