Honda has issued a recall of 1.4 million vehicles globally due to a defective fuel pump.
The comprehensive recall includes the 2018-2019 Honda Accord, Civic Hatchback, Civic Type R, and HR-V models alongside 2019 Fit and 2019-2020 Insight models. Additionally, the 2019 Acura RDX, RLX, RLX Sport Hybrid, and 2018-2019 NSX are involved. Of the roughly 1.4 million vehicles being recalled globally, 136,057 of them are located in the United States.

Recall documents with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration published on May 28, 2020 reveal that the low-pressure fuel pump inside the fuel tanks of affected models could falter or completely fail due to defective impellers. If the impellers are faulty, it can result in a loss of power and could cause the vehicle to stall.
Honda says the issue arises from how the impellers were manufactured, asserting that they were “exposed to production solvent drying for longer periods of time”, potentially resulting in surface cracking.
The Japanese car manufacturer says it isn’t aware of any crashes or injuries caused by the defective fuel pump.
Honda will start to notify customers by the end of July and simply replace the affected vehicles’ fuel pumps at no cost to the owners. Both Honda and Acura have easy-to-use websites where owners can see if their vehicle is impacted by a recall by looking up the VIN or by searching for their specific model.
