Production of the Hyundai Palisade and Genesis GV80 was idled in South Korea last week due to a parts shortage.
It is understood that production was halted on June 15 when an employee at a parts supplier passed away after contracting Covid-19. This came shortly after Kia halted production at two of its domestic plants on June 11 after two workers at the sites near Seoul tested positive for the coronavirus.

While both the Hyundai Palisade and Genesis GV80 are both excellent, their launches in different markets have been impacted on a number of fronts. In February, the company idled production at most of its factories in South Korea and later had to pause production as the Chinese suppliers that provide the wiring harnesses for the two SUVs had yet to recover from their Covid-19 shutdowns.
Just Auto adds that Genesis had to suspend deliveries of diesel versions of the GV80 earlier this month due to excessive engine vibrations. Hyundai has also recently suspended production of the Sonata and Santa Fe.
Responding to a request for comment on the matter from CNET, a Hyundai representative said the production stoppage shouldn’t affect U.S.-spec Palisade models. Genesis hasn’t responded to a request for comment.
Pricing for the U.S.-spec Genesis GV80 was only announced in early March. The SUV will arrive at local dealerships later this year with a starting price of $48,900, excluding freight charges of $1,205. The range-topping model, dubbed the 3.5T AWD Prestige and equipped with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 delivering 375 hp, starts at $70,950.
