Hertz filed for bankruptcy last month and it raised fears the rental giant could sell off hundreds of thousands of vehicles as part of the restructuring process.

While that hasn’t happened yet, the company is already selling off a number of former fleet vehicles.

Given all of the interest in Hertz, iSeeCars decided to find their best bargains. As part of the study, they analyzed over 20,000 used vehicles – from the 2017-2019 models years – listed by Hertz last month.

According to the results of the study, Hertz vehicles are typically priced 8.0% below market value for an average savings of $1,389. However, one model can be bought for $6,877 less than average.

We’re talking about the BMW 7-Series which is the best Hertz bargain as they have an average price of $42,680. That’s 13.7% below market value and this results in a saving of nearly $7,000.

While most rental cars have high mileage, that isn’t necessarily the case with BMW’s flagship sedan. As iSeeCar’s CEO Phong Ly explained, “The upcharge for renting a luxury car likely makes the BMW 7-Series an unpopular rental, so the average mileage is about half of what you would find from a typical dealer.”

The second best deal was the Chevrolet Trax with an average price of $11,196. That’s 13.4% below market value for an average savings of $1,714.

The next two spots went to luxury vehicles and buyers looking for a deal on the Mercedes A-Class or Infiniti QX50 might want to consider buying from Hertz. The A-Class is typically listed for 13.0% below market value and this means an average price of $28,555 as well as a saving of $4,252.

The QX50, on the other hand, can be bought for 12.7% below market value. That results in a saving of $4,145 and an average price of $27,760.

Fifth place belongs to the first pickup to make the list as it’s the Toyota Tundra. The model has an average price of $31,383 which is a saving of $4,714 thanks to being sold for 12.6% below market value.

Rounding out the top ten spots were the Nissan Versa Note, Buick Cascada, Kia Forte, Volkswagen Golf and Nissan Quest. They are all listed at least 12% below market value and offer savings of up to $2,241.

Of course, used rental cars have some quirks and a less than stellar reputation. That being said, they’re typically well maintained and an inspection should be able to find any glaring issues.
