Maserati has been tight-lipped about the upcoming MC20, but new details are starting to merge about the upcoming sports car.
According to Automotive News Europe, the MC20 will use a new twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine that features “turbulent jet ignition” to improve efficiency and reduce emissions. It will also embrace electrification, although specifics are lacking.
The engine will reportedly produce up to 542 hp (404 kW / 550 PS) and be used in a number of sports cars including the MC20 as well as the next-generation GranTurismo and GranCabrio.

The publication says the engine will also power a new midsized crossover that will be built alongside the Alfa Romeo Stelvio next year. However, its output will reportedly be limited to 523 hp (390 kW / 530 PS).
Since the new engine is designed to replace the current V8 sourced from Ferrari, it will also see use in the Levante and Quattroporte. There it will reportedly have outputs of 523 hp (390 kW / 530 PS) and 572 hp (427 kW / 580 PS).
Besides talking about the new twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine, the report says Maserati will offer a four-cylinder in the facelifted Ghibli which will be unveiled on July 15th. Unsurprisingly, the engine is a version of the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder which powers the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio as well as the Jeep Cherokee and Wrangler. It will feature a 48 volt mild hybrid system and be used in the Ghibli Hybrid.
There’s no word on how powerful the hybrid will be, but Maserati has previously said it will drive them “boldly forward towards a more sustainable future.”
