It’s not very often that a carmaker will drop the names of direct competitors inside a new model’s press release.

However, Daimler would like everyone in the world to know that they consider the S 650 Maybach sedan to be a direct rival to the Bentley Flying Spur and the Rolls Royce Ghost. Of course, with a $200k + price tag, the case can easily be made.

The “regular” Mercedes-Maybach S 650 costs upwards of $202,550 in the United States. This one though is far from regular. Dubbed the Night Edition, this S 650 is limited to just 15 units and comes with a price tag of $242,950.

Boasting unique and distinctive black and carbon fiber elements, the Night Edition is only available for the U.S. market and is arriving now in showrooms nationwide.

The exterior is finished in Obsidian Black, while the cabin gets exclusive Nappa leather upholstery in Porcelain and Black, complemented by Night Edition leather floor mats and a trunk mat in black with porcelain edges. The mandatory Night Edition badges can be found on the front fenders and interior trim.

Standard features include the V12 radiator grille with Maybach lettering, Executive rear seats with power calf rests, 64-color ambient lighting, Head-Up display, LED Intelligent Light System with Ultra Wide Beam headlamps and Adaptive Highbeam Assist, the Burmester High-End 3D Surround sound system, the Driver Assistance Package, Night View Assist Plus, the AIRMATIC semi-active air suspension and Magic Body Control.

Power comes from a 6.0-liter V12 biturbo engine, pushing down 621 HP (630 PS) and 738 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque. It’s enough to get you from zero to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 4.6 seconds.
