With a 3.22-mile (5.15-km) long and 300-foot (91.44-m) wide runway, the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds in Florida is one of the few places on Earth where vehicles can safely and legally reach their speed limits.
One of the latest models subjected to a test by the team was the new Mercedes-AMG G63. The German super 4×4 was set loose in a standing mile challenge, in nearly perfect weather conditions with barely any wind hitting it.

Should you ask the Affalterbach performance brand how quick their vehicle is, they will tell you that it can hit 149 mph (240 km/h) when equipped with the optional AMG Driver’s Package, or 12 mph (20 km/h) less without this feature. The 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) acceleration is completed in 4.5 seconds, which is mighty impressive from a car that has a curb weight of almost 5,500 pounds (~2,500 kg) and the aerodynamics of a brick wall.
Like each and every modern top-of-the-line AMG, the new G63 is powered by the omnipresent 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. The engine was tuned to pump out 577 HP (585 PS / 430 kW) and 627 pound-feet (848 Nm) of torque, channeled to all four corners through the 9-speed automatic transmission.
It would be interesting to see more high-riders subjected to this test in the future, including the 707 HP Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, but in the meantime, how fast do you think the potent G-Wagen ran the standing mile? The answer lies on video down below, so you know the drill.
